The Australian food scene – past, present and future...
With multiple accolades including Delicious Magazine’s Outstanding Chef award (2015), Gourmet Traveller’s Best New Talent award (2011) and West Australia’s Good Food Guide’s Best Young Chef, Matt Stone is recognised as one of the leading forces in Australia’s food scene.
On July 16, Mercedes me was delighted to host Matt in conversation with renowned foodie and guest MC; Alice Zaslavsky. Matt took guests us through the evolution of the Australian food scene, from its Indigenous roots and the origins of restaurants, through to the current climate of multicultural influence and trends. Matt also shared valuable tips for our guests on how to grow your own food and decrease wastage at home through some innovative yet simple techniques.
Currently serving as Executive Chef at Oakridge Wines in the Yarra Valley, Matt’s insistence on zero food wastage and the importance of supporting local farmers has made him a worthy role model to follow into the future of Australian cuisine.
Our lucky guests loved the opportunity to learn from Matt and speak with him individually following the in conversation. Throughout the night, they also enjoyed a complimentary welcome drink and delicious grazing table courtesy of our partners at ST ALi.
Food and Wine is a core pillar of the Mercedes me Store and we look forward to many more food related events.
