On Thursday 14th June, Mercedes me hosted creative director and fashion designer, Yeojin Bae for an intimate evening of fashion.
This was the second time Mercedes me has welcomed Yeojin, following her first appearance as a panelist at the 2018 International Women’s Day event.
In a rare treat, guests experienced not only an exclusive preview of Yeojin’s new spring / summer collection, but also a wonderful conversation on her business acumen with friend and CEO of Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival, Graeme Lewsey.
The evening provided a unique insight into the fashion industry as a whole, but also one of Australia’s best young designers: Yeojin has been recognized internationally for her creative processes and beautiful garments, with celebrity endorsements from the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker, Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez.
The conversation delved into Yeojin’s design philosophies, providing a holistic view of her brand and what she looks for when she creates her stunning pieces. “My trademark is really about forming a beautiful relationship with my customer, and I spend a lot of time finding some of the best fabrications I can so that I know the garment is going to have slick lines that are elegant but functional and create the wow factor”, said Bae.
The audience was extremely receptive to the styling tips and outfit recommendations discussed by both Bae and Lewsey throughout the night, and were left awestruck by the beautiful designs showcased on the multilevel fashion runway.
The pair also touched on the importance of local manufacturing, and producing garments in socially and environmentally responsible ways. ‘Community Leadership’ is also a core pillar here at Mercedes me, and so these philosophies truly reflect our own values.
The Yeojin Bae fashion show was our very first here in store, but it will certainly not be our last, and we look forward to welcoming many more fashion designers into the space.
